Confluence Interface Tour

Knowing where everything lives in Confluence saves you time every single day. This topic maps each part of the screen so you can navigate with confidence from your very first session.

The Four Zones of Confluence

The Confluence screen divides into four clear zones. Each zone has a specific job, and they work together like a cockpit dashboard.

Zone 1 — The Top Bar

The top bar stays visible on every screen. It gives you quick access to the most-used features.

Top Bar Items Explained

ITEM WHAT IT DOES
──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Home (☰) Takes you to your personal homepage
Recent Shows the last 20 pages you visited
Spaces Lists all spaces you can access
People Finds teammates and their profiles
Search (🔍) Searches all pages, spaces, and comments
Create (+) Opens a new blank page immediately

The Search bar is the most powerful item in the top bar. Press the slash key / on any page to jump straight to it without touching the mouse.

Zone 2 — The Left Sidebar

The left sidebar shows the structure of the space you are currently viewing. Think of it as the table of contents for a book. Every page in the space appears here, and child pages nest underneath their parent pages.

Sidebar Structure Example

BAKERY OPS (Space)
│
├── 📄 Cake Recipes ← parent page
│ ├── 📄 Chocolate Cake ← child page
│ └── 📄 Vanilla Sponge ← child page
│
├── 📄 Delivery Schedule
│
└── 📄 Supplier Contacts
      └── 📄 UK Suppliers ← child page

Click any page name in the sidebar to open it instantly. Click the arrow beside a page name to expand or collapse its child pages.

Zone 3 — The Main Content Area

This is where the page content appears. When you open a page, you see the title, the author's name, the last-edited date, and all the text, images, and tables on that page.

Page body content starts here...

The last-updated date tells you immediately whether the information is current. If the page was last edited two years ago, it may need a review.

Zone 4 — The Page Tools Bar

When you open any page, a toolbar appears at the top of the content area. It controls actions you can take on that specific page.

Page Tools Explained

BUTTON ACTION
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Edit Opens the page in editing mode
Share Sends a link to a teammate
Watch Notifies you when the page changes
Like Adds a thumbs-up reaction

… (more) Export, Copy link, Move page, Delete
