Canva Folders
Folders keep your Canva projects organized as your design library grows over time. A clear folder structure saves time searching through dozens, or even hundreds, of saved designs. This topic covers how to build and maintain a folder system that scales with your work.
The Folder View on Screen
The layout guide below shows how folders and subfolders appear on the Projects page.
The top row shows top-level client folders. Opening one of these folders reveals its own subfolders underneath, keeping related design types grouped together.
Where Folders Live
Open the "Projects" tab from the main dashboard to view every design and folder in your account. This screen shows recent files first, with folders pinned near the top for quick access at any time.
A Simple Way to Picture It
A Canva folder works like a labeled drawer in a filing cabinet. Loose papers scattered across a desk take time to sort through when needed. Papers filed into labeled drawers get found within seconds, and Canva folders offer that same organized structure for digital designs.
Creating a Folder
Click "Create a Folder" on the Projects page. Type a clear name describing its contents, such as a client name or a campaign title. Pressing enter saves the new folder immediately, ready to receive designs.

This tree shows a two-level structure, with a top-level client folder branching into more specific project folders underneath it. A structure like this scales well as a client relationship grows to include more types of design work.
Moving Designs into Folders
Right-click any design thumbnail and select "Move to Folder." Choose an existing folder from the list, or create a new one directly from this menu without leaving the current screen or losing your place.
Nesting Folders for Larger Projects
Open a folder and click "Create a Folder" again to build a subfolder inside it. This structure suits agencies or teams managing multiple clients, each with several campaigns running at the same time.
Searching Within Folders
Use the search bar at the top of the Projects page to filter results by name. Search results include matches from inside folders, so a specific design stays easy to find even within a large, deeply nested library.
Sharing an Entire Folder
Click the share icon on a folder to invite team members to every design inside it at once. This approach saves time compared to sharing each individual design one at a time.
A Practical Walkthrough
A freelance designer works with five ongoing clients at once. She creates a folder for each client, then builds subfolders inside for social media, print, and email work. When a client asks for their latest flyer, she finds it within seconds instead of scrolling through her entire project history.
Quick Recap
- Folders organize designs from the Projects page on the dashboard
- Right-clicking any design lets you move it into a folder instantly
- Subfolders support larger projects with multiple clients or campaigns
- Folder-level sharing invites collaborators to an entire group of designs at once
