Word Text Boxes
Ordinary paragraph text stays locked into the normal top-to-bottom flow of a page. A text box breaks free of that flow entirely, floating at any chosen position, size, and rotation angle. A pull quote lifted from an article's body and enlarged beside the main column is a classic use, drawing a reader's eye to one striking sentence.
Inserting A Text Box
The Insert tab holds a Text Box button offering both a gallery of styled presets and a Draw Text Box option for a fully custom shape sketched by hand. Typing directly inside the box works exactly like typing anywhere else, and normal font and paragraph formatting tools still apply within it.
Positioning And Wrapping
A text box behaves much like a picture regarding text wrap, offering the same Square, Tight, and Behind Text options through its own contextual Format tab. Dragging the box by its edge repositions it freely, while the corner handles resize it, and a small rotation handle above the box spins it to any angle.
Linking Multiple Text Boxes
A Create Link option connects one text box to a second empty one, so overflow content from the first box automatically continues inside the linked second box. This technique suits a magazine-style layout where an article jumps from one page section to another further down the same page.

Removing A Text Box Border Or Fill
A text box does not need a visible border or background at all. Setting both the outline and fill to No Color turns the box into an invisible container, useful for placing free-floating text precisely over a picture without any distracting rectangle around it.
Enlarging one sentence into a styled text box beside the main column draws attention without needing a separate graphic design tool.
Several independent text boxes scattered across a page can overlap unpredictably as content shifts, so restraint keeps a layout dependable.
Formatting Text Inside A Box
Every ordinary font and paragraph tool remains fully available inside a text box, letting a learner center a heading, apply a bold weight, or adjust line spacing exactly as with regular body text. Internal margins within the box, adjustable through its Format options, control how closely the text hugs the box's own border.
Changing A Text Box's Shape
An Edit Shape option under Format lets a learner swap a plain rectangular text box for a different outline entirely, such as a rounded banner or a speech bubble, while keeping the typed content and its formatting fully intact inside the new outline.
