Keyboard Shortcuts Windows Lock Screen and Sign Out
Locking your computer when you step away from your desk is an important security habit. It takes less than one second with a keyboard shortcut, and it protects your work and personal information from anyone who passes by. This topic covers the shortcuts for locking, signing out, and shutting down Windows quickly.
Lock the Screen — Win + L
Win + L → Instantly locks the screen
→ Requires your password or PIN to unlock
→ All open apps and files stay running in the background
This is the most important security shortcut for office workers and students. Press Win + L every time you walk away from your desk — even for just a few minutes.
