Keyboard Shortcuts Google Slides Presentation

Google Slides is the browser-based presentation tool in Google Workspace. Its keyboard shortcuts cover slide building, object manipulation, and presentation delivery — including the ability to present and navigate slides without touching the mouse once the slideshow starts.

Creating and Managing Slides

  Ctrl + M              → Add a new slide
  Ctrl + D              → Duplicate the current slide
  Delete / Backspace    → Delete selected slide(s)
  Ctrl + Z              → Undo last action
  Ctrl + Shift + Z      → Redo

  REARRANGE SLIDES:
  Select slide thumbnail → Ctrl + X → click target position → Ctrl + V
  OR: drag the thumbnail in the slide panel

Starting and Navigating Presentations

  Ctrl + Shift + F5  → Present from current slide
  Ctrl + F5          → Present from the first slide

  DURING PRESENTATION:
  Space / Right Arrow / Page Down / Enter → Next slide
  Left Arrow / Backspace / Page Up        → Previous slide
  [Number] + Enter   → Jump to slide N
  Home               → Go to first slide
  End                → Go to last slide
  Esc                → Exit presentation

Presenter View

  Click the dropdown arrow next to "Present" button → "Presenter view"
  OR: Present normally → press A → "Open speaker notes"

  PRESENTER VIEW SHOWS:
  ✔ Your speaker notes
  ✔ Current + next slide preview
  ✔ Slide timer
  ✔ Q&A panel (if enabled for audience)

Presentation Laser Pointer and Drawing

  DURING PRESENTATION:
  L           → Toggle laser pointer (cursor shows as red dot)
  P           → Pointer tool (normal arrow cursor)
  (No built-in drawing pen in Google Slides — use Chrome's
   annotation extension or Jamboard for annotation needs)

Working with Objects and Text Boxes

  Click object → F2 or Enter → Enter text editing mode
  Esc (once)   → Exit text mode, stay in object selection mode
  Esc (twice)  → Deselect object entirely

  MOVING OBJECTS:
  Select object → Arrow keys → nudge by small amount
  Shift + Arrow  → Nudge by larger amount

  RESIZING OBJECTS:
  Select object → drag corner handles (mouse only)
  No keyboard resize shortcut in Google Slides.

  GROUPING:
  Ctrl + G        → Group selected objects
  Ctrl + Shift + G→ Ungroup
  Tab             → Select next object on slide
  Shift + Tab     → Select previous object

Aligning Objects

  With object(s) selected:
  Format → Align → (Left, Center, Right, Top, Middle, Bottom)
  No keyboard shortcut — use the Format menu or the align toolbar.

  DISTRIBUTE OBJECTS EVENLY:
  Select 3+ objects → Format → Align → Distribute
  → Objects space themselves equally (horizontally or vertically)

Text Formatting in Slides

  Ctrl + B         → Bold
  Ctrl + I         → Italic
  Ctrl + U         → Underline
  Alt + Shift + 5  → Strikethrough
  Ctrl + Shift + + → Superscript
  Ctrl + =         → Subscript
  Ctrl + Shift + J → Justify text
  Ctrl + E         → Center align
  Ctrl + L         → Left align
  Ctrl + R         → Right align

Slide Layout and Theme

  NO KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS for changing layout or theme —
  use the Slide menu:
  Slide → Apply layout → choose a layout
  Slide → Change theme → choose a theme

  TRANSITION (no shortcut):
  Slide → Transition → choose transition type and speed

Sharing and Collaboration

  Ctrl + Alt + M    → Insert a comment on the slide
  View → Comments   → Open comments panel
  Ctrl + Shift + C  → Copy formatting of selected text
  Ctrl + Shift + V  → Paste formatting

The jump-to-slide shortcut (type a number then press Enter during a presentation) is the most practical presentation skill to practice before any live talk. When an audience member asks about a topic you covered earlier, typing "3" and pressing Enter jumps you to slide 3 instantly — far more professional than pressing the back arrow many times while the audience watches you fumble through slides.
