Keyboard Shortcuts PowerPoint Slide Control

PowerPoint shortcuts help you build presentations faster and deliver them more confidently. The shortcuts for presentation mode are especially important — fumbling with the mouse while presenting in front of an audience is a common and avoidable problem.

Starting and Ending a Presentation

F5 → Start presentation from the FIRST slide
Shift + F5 → Start from the CURRENT slide
Esc → End presentation and return to editing view
B → Black out screen during presentation
W → White out screen during presentation
(Press B or W again to return to the slide)

Navigating Slides During Presentation

  Space / Right Arrow / Page Down / N / Enter → Next slide
  Left Arrow / Page Up / P / Backspace → Previous slide
[Number] + Enter → Jump to that slide number
Example: type "5" then Enter → goes to slide 5
  Home → First slide
  End → Last slide

EXAMPLE — presenting, need to jump to slide 12:
Type "12" → press Enter → presentation jumps to slide 12 instantly
No need to click through all intervening slides.

Shift + F5 is the presentation shortcut that every presenter needs to know. During rehearsal or when fixing slides, you often start the presentation from the current slide rather than from the beginning. Shift + F5 does exactly that — starts the presentation from wherever you are editing, saving you from clicking through slides you have already reviewed.
