Linear Workspace Setup

Your Linear workspace is the central hub where your entire team works. Setting it up correctly from the start saves time and avoids confusion later. This topic walks through creating an account, configuring your workspace, and inviting teammates.

Create a Linear Account

Visit linear.app and click Sign Up. Linear allows sign-up with a Google account, GitHub account, or email address. Using Google or GitHub is faster because it skips email verification.

Create Your Workspace

A workspace represents your company or organization in Linear. Every person you invite shares this workspace. Choose a clear, recognizable name — your company name works best.

Workspace Setup Fields

FieldWhat to EnterExample
Workspace NameYour company or team nameAcme Corp
Workspace URLA short, unique web addresslinear.app/acme-corp
Your RoleYour job title or functionProduct Manager
Team SizeNumber of people in your org10–25

The workspace URL becomes the address everyone on your team uses to access Linear. Pick something short and easy to remember. You can change the display name later, but the URL is harder to update once shared.

Workspace Settings

After creating your workspace, open Settings from the left sidebar. The settings area controls everything about how your workspace looks and behaves.

Member Roles in a Workspace

Linear assigns roles to every workspace member. Roles control what each person can see, change, and manage.

Personal Profile Settings

  • Avatar: Upload a photo to help teammates identify you quickly.
  • Notification Preferences: Choose how and when Linear notifies you about activity.
  • Theme: Switch between Light, Dark, or System default themes.
