Copy Move and Delete
Three Important File Actions
You regularly need to organise your files. Three actions help you do this: Copy makes a duplicate of a file. Move sends the file to a new location. Delete removes the file from its location.
📋
Copy
Original stays. A new copy appears in another place.
🚚
Move
File leaves the old place and appears in the new place.
🗑
Delete
File is removed from its location.
How to Copy a File
Click the file once to select it. Press Ctrl + C to copy it. Open the destination folder. Press Ctrl + V to paste the copy there. The original file remains untouched in its original location.
📋 Copy Flow
Original
Folder A
Duplicate
Folder B
Both copies now exist at the same time ✅
How to Move a File
Select the file and press Ctrl + X to cut it. Open the destination folder. Press Ctrl + V to paste it. The file disappears from the old location and appears in the new one.
💡 Keyboard Shortcuts for File Actions
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| Copy | Ctrl + C |
| Cut (Move) | Ctrl + X |
| Paste | Ctrl + V |
| Delete | Delete key |
| Undo mistake | Ctrl + Z |
How to Delete a File
Click the file to select it and press the Delete key. The file moves to the Recycle Bin. It stays there until you empty the bin. If you deleted a file by mistake, open the Recycle Bin and click Restore to bring it back.
Example
Copying a file is like using a photocopier — your original letter stays with you, and a fresh copy goes to a friend. Moving a file is like handing the original letter directly to the friend — it leaves your hands completely.
