How to Start and Stop
Starting the Computer
Every computer has a power button. Press it once, and the computer starts. The screen lights up and the computer loads its programs. This starting process is called booting up.
▶ What Happens When You Press Power
| Step | What Happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | Power flows to the computer |
| 2 | Screen turns on and shows a loading symbol |
| 3 | The operating system starts (Windows or others) |
| 4 | The desktop appears — computer is ready to use |
Logging In
Some computers ask you to enter a password before you can use them. This keeps your work private. Type your password and press Enter. The computer then shows the desktop.
Example
A password is like the lock on your diary. Only you know the secret key. The computer uses the password the same way — to make sure only the right person gets in.
Shutting Down the Right Way
You must never just switch off the power directly. Always use the Shut Down option. This saves your work and closes all programs safely before turning off.
⏹ How to Shut Down a Windows Computer
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Click the Start button (bottom left of screen) |
| 2 | Click the Power icon |
| 3 | Click Shut down |
| 4 | Wait for the screen to go black |
Restart vs Shut Down
Shut Down turns the computer off completely. Restart turns it off and then switches it on again automatically. Teachers and technicians use restart to fix small computer problems.
