What Does the Mouse Do?
The mouse is an input device. Move the mouse on the table, and an arrow called the pointer moves on the screen. The pointer lets you select, open, and control things on screen without typing.

Example
Moving the mouse is like moving your hand over a map. Wherever your finger points on the map, that is where you are looking. The pointer on screen works the same way — it shows exactly where you are pointing.
