Icons and Folders
What Is an Icon?
An icon is a small picture on the screen. Each icon represents a program, a file, or a folder. You double-click an icon to open what it represents.
🖼 Common Icons on a Computer
| Icon Look | Name | What It Opens |
|---|---|---|
| 📁 | Folder | A place that holds many files |
| 📄 | Document | A text file you can read |
| 📷 | Photo | A picture or image file |
| 🗑 | Recycle Bin | Holds deleted files |
| 🌐 | Browser | Opens websites on the internet |
What Is a Folder?
A folder is a container on the computer. It stores files in an organised way. You put related files into the same folder so they are easy to find later.
Example
Imagine your school bag has pockets. You put your Maths book in one pocket and your English book in another. Folders work the same way on a computer — each folder keeps different types of files in separate places.

Creating a New Folder
Right-click on an empty area of the desktop. A menu appears. Click New and then click Folder. A new folder appears with the name ready to type. Type a name and press Enter.
The Recycle Bin
The Recycle Bin icon looks like a waste bin. When you delete a file, it goes to the Recycle Bin first. The file stays there until you choose to permanently delete it or restore it back.
