What Is a Program?
A program is a set of instructions that tells the computer what to do. You open a program to do a job — write a story, draw a picture, play a learning game, or browse the internet. Programs are also called applications or apps.

What Is a Window?
When you open a program, it appears inside a rectangle on the screen. This rectangle is called a window. You can open many windows at the same time and switch between them.

The Three Window Buttons
Every window has three buttons in the top-right corner. Each button controls how the window looks on screen.
− Minimise
Hides window; keeps it running in taskbar
□ Maximise
Fills the whole screen
✕ Close
Closes the program window
Example
Imagine you open three books on your desk at the same time. Each book is like an open window. You look at one book, then switch to another. The computer lets you switch between open windows the same way.
