The Keyboard Is for Typing
The keyboard is an input device. You press keys on it to give the computer letters, numbers, and commands. A keyboard has many different types of keys, each with its own job.

Important Special Keys
Enter Key
The Enter key confirms an action or starts a new line. After you type a search word, press Enter to make the computer search for it.
Backspace Key
The Backspace key deletes the letter just before your cursor. Made a spelling mistake? Press Backspace to erase it.
Space Bar
The Space Bar is the long key at the bottom of the keyboard. Press it once to put a space between two words.
Shift Key
Hold Shift and press a letter to type a Capital Letter. Hold Shift and press a number key to type special symbols like @ # $ %.

Example
The keyboard works like the keys of a piano. Each key makes a different sound (or result). The Shift key is like a pedal — it changes what a key does when you press both together.
