Eight keys form the most important row on the entire keyboard: A S D F on the left and J K L ; on the right. Your fingers rest here by default. The letters F and J each have a small raised bump — feel them without looking and you instantly know your hands are in the right position.

After pressing any key anywhere on the keyboard, your fingers must spring back to the Home Row like rubber bands. This return-home habit is the single most important physical skill in touch-typing. Without it, your hands drift and you lose your place every few words.

A — Left Pinky  |  S — Left Ring  |  D — Left Middle  |  F ◉ — Left Index (bump)  |  J ◉ — Right Index (bump)  |  K — Right Middle  |  L — Right Ring  |  ; — Right Pinky

⚡ The Return-Home Rule

Every time a finger presses a key anywhere on the keyboard it must return to its home position before pressing the next key. Fingers that linger away from home cause chain errors. Practice the motion: press → snap back → press → snap back.
