Typing a single sentence is one skill. Typing a full paragraph without losing rhythm is another. Paragraphs introduce sustained concentration across multiple sentences, sentence boundary transitions (full stop → space → Shift+capital), varying word lengths, and natural punctuation patterns. Maintaining consistent speed across all of these without slowing at any boundary is the hallmark of a professional typist.

Most people slow down at sentence boundaries — the moment between a full stop and the next capital letter. Eliminating that pause adds 3–7 WPM to most people's speed without any other change. Train yourself to press the full stop, the space, and the Shift+capital as one single flowing three-key motion.

👁 Read Three Words Ahead

Professional typists read 3–5 characters ahead of what their fingers are currently typing. This pre-loads the next motor pattern before the current one finishes, eliminating the gap between words. Start by reading one full word ahead, then two, then three. Each step forward reduces your inter-word pause and raises your WPM.

🔁 Sentence Boundary Drill

After every full stop: right ring finger presses period → right thumb presses space → left or right pinky holds Shift → index finger presses first letter of next sentence. Practise this four-step sequence in isolation until it becomes automatic. It is the single highest-value micro-skill in paragraph typing.

⌨️ Paragraph Practice

Three full paragraphs — education, history, and professional technique. Each is 80–120 words. Aim for consistent WPM from first word to last, with no speed dip at sentence boundaries!

✅ Key Takeaways

Paragraph typing demands sustained rhythm, no boundary pauses, and read-ahead. The sentence-boundary four-step (period → space → Shift → capital) should feel like one motion. Reading three words ahead creates the motor pipeline that eliminates inter-word gaps and raises WPM without typing faster.
