Typing Error Correction
⚙️ Settings
No typist is perfect. Even 100 WPM professionals make errors — the difference is that they correct them without breaking rhythm or losing their place in the text. Efficient error correction is a skill in its own right. It comes in three levels: single-character correction with Backspace, whole-word deletion with Ctrl+Backspace, and retyping from a clean position.
The fastest correction method depends on how far back the error is. If you mistyped the last character, press Backspace once and retype. If you garbled an entire word, Ctrl+Backspace deletes the whole word in one keystroke — far faster than pressing Backspace eight times for an eight-letter word. Choose your method in under 0.3 seconds to keep your net WPM high.
⌃⌫ Ctrl+Backspace — Word Delete
Hold Ctrl and press Backspace. This deletes the entire word to the left of the cursor in one keystroke. It is the most efficient correction for errors at the start or middle of a word. Most typists discover this shortcut late — making it habitual early is a significant competitive advantage.
⛔ Prevention vs Correction
The best correction is the one you never need. Prevention through slow, deliberate practice reduces errors faster than correction training alone. But when errors do happen, correction reflexes trained to respond in under 0.3 seconds mean they cost at most half a second rather than 3–5 seconds of confused backspacing.

✅ Key Takeaways
Backspace corrects one character; Ctrl+Backspace deletes the whole word. Choose your correction method within 0.3 seconds. Prevention beats correction every time — but fast correction reflexes ensure errors never cost more than half a second of flow. Your net WPM shows the true cost of every error and correction.
