Lists organise information into short points. A list breaks a big paragraph into clear, easy steps or items. Word offers two main types of lists: bullet lists and numbered lists.

📝 Two Types of Lists
Bullet List
● Apples
● Bananas
● Oranges
Numbered List
1. Wake up
2. Brush teeth
3. Eat breakfast

When to Use Each List

  • Bullet List – Use for items with no specific order, like a shopping list
  • Numbered List – Use for steps that must follow an order, like a recipe

How to Create a List

  1. Go to the Home tab
  2. Click the Bullets button (•≡) or the Numbering button (1≡)
  3. Type your first item, then press Enter for the next item
  4. Press Enter twice to stop the list

Multi-Level Lists

Sometimes a list needs sub-points. Press Tab to push an item one level deeper. Press Shift + Tab to bring it back out.
