Looking After a Laptop
A laptop is a portable computer. Because you carry it from place to place, it faces more risks than a desktop — drops, spills and rough handling can damage it. Looking after your laptop well means it lasts longer and works properly every time you use it.
💻 Parts of a Laptop You Must Protect
| Part | Why It Needs Care | How to Protect It |
|---|---|---|
| Screen | The display cracks easily if pressed or dropped | Hold the screen by the sides, not the middle |
| Keyboard | Food and drink block and damage the keys | Keep food and drinks away from the laptop |
| Battery | Overcharging shortens its lifespan | Unplug once fully charged; do not run it to zero every time |
| Ports (USB, HDMI) | Forcing wrong plugs breaks the port | Match the plug shape before inserting |
| Vents | Blocked vents cause overheating | Use the laptop on a flat, hard surface — not on a bed or cushion |
✅ Do This vs ❌ Never Do This
● Keep it in a padded bag
● Place it on a clean flat surface
● Shut the lid gently
● Clean the screen with a soft cloth
● Stack heavy books on top of it
● Pull it by the screen
● Use it on a soft blanket or pillow
● Leave it in direct sunlight
Charging the Battery Correctly
The battery powers the laptop when it is not plugged in. A healthy battery charges and discharges smoothly. You protect it by not letting it drain to zero every time and not leaving it plugged in at 100% for hours every day.

Example: A laptop is like a glass of water. Carry it with two hands so it does not spill. Do not leave it in the sun or it will get warm. Store it safely in a bag when you are not using it.
