The Recycle Bin
The Recycle Bin sits on the desktop. When you delete a file, it moves here first. The file is not gone — it waits in the Recycle Bin until you empty it or restore it.

Cannot be recovered
How to Restore a File from the Recycle Bin
You restore a file when you realise you deleted it by mistake. Restoring sends the file back to the folder it came from.
| Step | Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Double-click the Recycle Bin icon on the desktop to open it |
| 2 | Find the file you want back |
| 3 | Right-click the file |
| 4 | Click Restore — the file returns to its original folder |
How to Empty the Recycle Bin
Emptying the Recycle Bin removes files permanently. Do this when you are sure you no longer need those files. Emptying the bin also frees up storage space on the computer.
| Method | Steps |
|---|---|
| Right-click icon | Right-click the Recycle Bin icon → click Empty Recycle Bin → confirm Yes |
| From inside the bin | Open Recycle Bin → click Empty Recycle Bin at the top → confirm Yes |
⚠️ Important Rule
Example: The Recycle Bin is like a dustbin at home. You throw something away (delete). Before the rubbish collector comes (empty bin), you can still take it back out (restore). After the collector takes it — it is gone.
