Other Power Options
The Power menu has more than just Shut Down. Each option does something different.
| Option | What It Does | When to Use It |
|---|---|---|
| Shut Down | Turns the computer fully off | At the end of the day or when leaving for a long time |
| Restart | Shuts down and starts up again | After installing updates or when the computer is slow |
| Sleep | Saves your work in RAM and uses very little power | Taking a short break — you return quickly |
| Hibernate | Saves work to the hard disk and uses no power | Taking a long break but keeping your work open |
💡 Always restart the computer when Windows asks you to after an update. Restarting applies the update and keeps the computer secure and running well.
Example: Shutting down a computer is like closing a shop at the end of the day. The shopkeeper tidies everything, locks the door and turns off the lights in order — not all at once by cutting the power. Doing it in the right order keeps everything safe for the next day.
