Typing & Editing Text

Typing in Word is simple — click anywhere on the white page and start pressing keys. A blinking line called the cursor (or insertion point) shows exactly where your next letter will appear.

The Text Cursor

The cursor blinks so you always know where you are in the document. Click anywhere in the text to move the cursor there. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to move one character at a time.

My Name is Riya| I am in Class 4. I love learning computers. ← Cursor blinks here ← Selected text (blue)Cursor shows where next letter goes. Selected text turns blue — you can delete, copy, or format it.

Typing adds characters at the cursor. Drag to select text (shown in blue)

Selecting Text

Click and drag the mouse over text to select it. Selected text turns blue. Once selected, you can delete it, copy it, or change its formatting. Press Ctrl + A to select all text in the document at once.

Deleting Text

The Backspace key deletes the character to the left of the cursor. The Delete key removes the character to the right. To delete a whole word, double-click it to select, then press Backspace.
