Safe Internet Use

The Internet is a helpful tool, but it also has risks. Learning how to stay safe online protects you and your personal information. Every young Internet user needs to know these rules.

Golden Rules for Internet Safety

  • 🔒 Never share personal information — your full name, address, school name, phone number, or photos with people you do not know online.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧 Always tell a trusted adult — if you see something scary, strange, or uncomfortable online, tell a parent or teacher immediately.
  • 🔑 Keep passwords secret — do not share your password with anyone except your parents. A strong password uses letters, numbers, and symbols.
  • 🚫 Do not meet online strangers — a person online may not be who they say they are. Never agree to meet an online stranger in real life.
  • Only visit trusted websites — use websites recommended by your teacher or parents. Look for "https://" in the address bar.
  • 🖱 Do not click unknown links — pop-up messages and unknown links can lead to harmful websites or download viruses.
✅ SAFE Behaviour 🔒 Use trusted sites Tell parents if unsure Keep passwords secret ⚠ UNSAFE Behaviour Share personal details Click unknown links Meet online strangers Share your password → These cause harm

What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying means using the Internet or messages to be mean, threatening, or hurtful to others. It is wrong and harmful. If someone sends you or your friend hurtful messages online, do not reply — save the message and tell a trusted adult straight away.

🟢 What to do when something feels wrong online: Stop what you are doing. Do not click anything more. Tell a parent or teacher right away. They will help you handle it safely.
🔴 Signs of a dangerous website or message: Asks for your name, address, or phone number. Offers a prize for clicking a link. Uses scary or threatening language. Looks different from usual trusted sites.

Screen Time

Too much screen time is harmful for eyes, sleep, and posture. Doctors suggest children take a 20-second break every 20 minutes and look at something 20 feet away. This is called the 20-20-20 rule.

💡 Fun Fact: A strong password is at least 8 characters long and mixes UPPERCASE, lowercase, numbers, and symbols — like Sun$et99! — making it very hard to guess.
