Copy, Cut & Paste
Copy, Cut, and Paste are three actions you use every day on a computer. They help you move or duplicate text, images, and files quickly without retyping anything.
The Clipboard
When you copy or cut something, Windows stores it in a temporary holding area called the Clipboard. The clipboard holds your content until you paste it somewhere.
Copy/Cut stores in Clipboard → Paste puts it in the new place
Copy vs Cut — What is the Difference?
Copy keeps the original in place and makes a duplicate. Cut removes the original and moves it to the clipboard. Think of it like this: Copy is like photocopying a page (original stays), and Cut is like tearing the page out (original is gone).
Keyboard Shortcuts
| Action | Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Copy | Ctrl + C | Copies selected text or file |
| Cut | Ctrl + X | Removes and stores selected item |
| Paste | Ctrl + V | Places clipboard content here |
| Select All | Ctrl + A | Selects everything at once |
| Undo | Ctrl + Z | Reverses the last action |
